Celtic smash Motherwell as the post-winter break run continues + match highlights meanwhile off-field tensions mount.

So this pretty incredible run we’ve been on since returning from Dubai continued last night as Celtic smashed 4th placed Motherwell at Fir Park.

Having rattled in 13 goals in four consecutive league games as the post-winter break resurgence gathered pace that run continued with aplomb thanks to strikes by Leigh Griffiths, Callum McGregor and Odsonne Edouard.

We kept the 3-5-2 formation intact with big Jozo Simunovic returning to the back three in place of young Stephen Welsh who was a surprise starter on Sunday.

Truth be told we weren’t really at it in the first half similar to how we weren’t at the weekend against Hamilton Accies.

French Eddy can’t stop scoring.

But Edouard continued his hot run of form with a fine finish on nine minutes after some slack defending in the home sides box to give us the lead in any case.

Celtic toiled for the rest of the half with Kristofer Ajer continuing to look out of sorts.

We also had problems with new Motherwell signing Rolando Aarons and the home side definitely had their chances.

The second half was different though with McGregor and Edouard, in particular, kicking it up a gear.

McGregor constructed the second goal with a superb run from midfield that left the Fir Parks’ side midfield and then defence in his wake before feeding a cross into Griffiths who had all the time he wanted to take it down and score.

We pretty much ripped Motherwell apart at will thereafter, passing up several chances in the process, before McGregor himself made it three with an incredible volley from the edge of the box to seal the points with 15 minutes remaining.

Edouard then grabbed his second and put the icing on the cake with a fabulous free-kick finish on 80 mins and that’s all she wrote.

Elsewhere Rangers toiled again but pulled a 2-1 win out of the fire at home to Hibs thanks to a goal from new signing Ianis Hagi who in the process became the hottest property in world football……..well according to them anyway.

It means we remain seven points clear at the top with our goal difference advantage extended to twelve.

All in all a fine nights work and it means we have successfully navigated what looked like a potentially hazardous three successive away games in seven days with full points and thirteen goals scored with only one conceded.

McGregor was fantastic and scored a pearler.

We get a break from the title race on Sunday as we visit Clyde in Scottish Cup 5th round and we all know what happened the last time we visited Broadwood. I certainly do. What a complete disaster that was. Anyway, that one deserves an article all to itself which hopefully I’ll drop in the next few days.

Meanwhile, events off the field are gathering pace at some speed as the whole ‘translategate’ involving Sky’s interview with Alfredo Morelos continues to blow up as a total PR disaster for both the channel that aired it and Rangers themselves.

More to follow on that.

Needless to say, it’s all highly amusing stuff and more evidence that he of ‘succulent of lamb’ fame Jim Traynor couldn’t organise a piss-up in a brewery based on his clubs seemingly pathetic efforts to spin attention away from their on-field shortcomings and most valuable asset’s unfortunate personal life.
