Celtic 1-2 St.Mirren: the season hits a new low as Lennon somehow holds on while Lawwell departs.

Just when it couldn’t get any worse………………………it’s worse.

Celtic stooped to new a new low yesterday in a season that has had too many to count with a 2-1 defeat to Jim Goodwin’s St.Mirren.

It’s our first loss to the Paisely Buddies at Celtic Park since 1990 and our third defeat of the campaign which coupled with seven draws has seen us drop 20 points already.

Kristian Dennis reels away.

With only 8 wins in the last 24 games and now trailing Rangers by 23 points somewhat unfathomably Neil Lennon remains the manager.

Our form for the past four straight months has been nothing short of disastrous and you fear just how bad it could get with a previously irate Lennon now exasperated and forlorn as the extent of the implosion has finally appeared to have dawned on him.

With Peter Lawwell announcing his long overdue departure only days ago and new CEO Dominic McKay set to take over in June significant change is already afoot at boardroom level so the question is when will it take place on the touchline.

More of a critique on Lawwell later but safe to say he was always going to face the chopping block after overseeing the colossal shit show that has been the ‘Ten in a Row season’

Lawwell is gone.

Back to matters on the field and our next game is away at struggling Kilmarnock on Tuesday and they themselves don’t have their problems to seek having sacked manager Alex Dyer last night after a miserable run that has seen them lose 11 of their last 14 league games and three on the spin resulting in them sitting fourth bottom and only five points off the drop.

You might have noticed that I haven’t mentioned any specific details about the St.Mirren game.

That’s because there isn’t much to tell.

We were awful and completely devoid of creativity and determination.

Kristian Dennis smashed the visitors ahead on 18 mins after a 1-2 with Dylan Connolly.

On 32 mins Odsonne Edouard got the equaliser but any relief was short lived as Ilkay Durmus restored the Buddies advantage on 37 mins after Shane Duffy produced his custom clanger proving completely incapable of reading a high ball to the St.Mirren midfielder and was ultimately taken to the cleaners as Durmus fired home.

We changed it up in the second half but failed to create many chances and in the end deservedly failed to capture any points.

So that was that.

Neil Lennon finally seemed to concede that it’s just not good enough and was a beaten man in the post-match interview.

Every game now comes with an element of dread.

It really is mind blowing that we are in the position.

An absolute nightmare with ongoing inaction from the custodians of the club who seem to be either completely oblivious to or shellshocked by what’s unfolding in front of their eyes.

And you get the feeling we aren’t through the worst of it yet.

This could get a whole lot worse before it gets any better.
